Canadian Researchers Explore Wildfire Environments at Royal Academy Techo Sen Russey Trip Park

Phnom Penh, June 25, 2024: Canadian researchers, led by Professor Naomi Schwartz from the Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, have recently conducted a detailed study of wildfire environments at the Royal Academy Techo Sen Russey Trip Park. This research was carried out from June 18 to 22, 2024, as reported by a park official.

Professor Schwartz, along with three undergraduate students, embarked on a study titled "Wildfire Environment," which involved extensive soil sampling. Their research aimed to evaluate the organic carbon levels, soil presence, and vegetation in the park. Additionally, the team analyzed variations in charcoal composition across different landscape zones—specifically between the dense green forest and the flooded forest areas known as Prey Nam.

The coordinates for their detailed analysis were mapped at point No. 1 (547147.21 E, 1531402.54 N) and point No. 2 (548146.58 E, 1531339.68 N) within the park. Professor Schwartz is recognized for her expertise in ecology, forestry, tropical forests, wildfire environments, landscape ecology, and remote sensing technologies.

This initiative highlights the ongoing international collaboration and research dedicated to understanding and mitigating the impacts of wildfires on diverse ecosystems.
